How to delete single cells from PolyData

How can I delete a number of (randomly scattered) cells of different
types from PolyData.
If I use the DeleteCell method only the intern variable vtkCellTypes
*Cells is affected. This variable
is overwritten everytime BuildCells is called. There is no method to
really delete the cells in the vtkCellArrays.
