Isosurface support

Hello,

I am generating an isosurface from an extracted VOI of structured
points.  I would like to add support to the data (i.e. a layer of zero
valued scalars around the VOI) so that where the isosurface meets the
edge of the VOI it appears 'closed' in the rendered image.  Is there a
convenient way to do this in VTK, or do I need to implement this
myself?  I looked at vtkImageGaussianSmooth, and some other filters, but
to no avail...
