pthread and RH6?

greetings,

I recent assembled a dual-celeron system, and would like to run vtk under 
linux (Redhat 6.0).  Is there anything I should do to compile with
pthread? I just compiled vtk 2.3 but didn't see pthread to be utilized.

Is it as easy as changing "use_pthreads=no" to "use_pthreads=yes" in
configure.in?  Or it is one of the parameter I should have included when I
run ./configure?

any help is very much appreciated,
