Can't compile VTK on RedHat 6.0... can you help?

Dear VTK users on RedHat Linux,

I am trying to compile VTK2.3 on RedHat 6.0 Linux. I read the
Linux-HOWTO and checked
the FAQ, but didn't see anything like this... Any ideas/pointers will be
appreciated!

The compilation aborts right away, at the first 'gcc ...' command.
Here is the log of compilation - it's very short...

To configure VTK I used:
./configure --with-mesa --with-tcl --with-shared

The "user.make" does not contain anything except the usual Tcl, Tk, and
Mesa flags.
I don't use any other flags.

I use the following versions of packages:
VTK :        2.3
Mesa:        3.1beta2
TclTk:        8.0.4-29
