Could you try with launchd instead of cron?

You can start from the attached file, adjusting paths and times as necessary, and place it in ~/Library/LaunchAgents, then use:

launchctl unload ~/Library/LaunchAgents/foo.plist
launchctl load -w ~/Library/LaunchAgents/foo.plist
