If I put a patch in gerrit for the 5.x branch, would it be accepted?

As much as I'm looking forward to 6.0, I don't think it's ready for production code yet and this link error caused by the lack of mangling is a showstopper for me, as it's preventing me from updating my version of NetCDF and VTK.
