Yes VTK has such a facility. However, these functions were never
marked as deprecated. The backwards compatibility code is really
intertwined with the new pipeline code and it would be close to
impossible to make things compile with the deprecation warning
functionality we have once VTK_LEGACY_REMOVE is turned on.
