Hi,

I wanted to point out the Google Summer of Code timeline here,

http://www.google-melange.com/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2011/timeline

Students will soon begin preparing their proposals for their projects,
and may come to this or the user list asking questions. Some of them
may be new to open source, and so I would ask you to be patient. I
will be watching the list, along with others who are taking part in
the program. The current ideas page is on our wiki, but students can
also make proposals based on their own ideas. If there is anything
missing from the ideas list you really want to see, please let me
know.

If you are a VTK developer, and are interested in mentoring a student
project over the summer please get in touch with me. Mentors must sign
up, and apply to become a mentor. I would like to have mentors do this
as soon as possible, if you are not sure about the process please let
me know. Follow the link below to the Melange application that is used
to manage Google Summer of Code projects,

http://www.google-melange.com/

Student applications may be submitted between March 28 (19:00 UTC)
through to April 8 (19:00 UTC). In addition to the details on the
Melange site there are two online books available online for mentors,

http://www.booki.cc/gsoc-mentoring/

and students,

http://www.booki.cc/gsocstudentguide/

If I left anything out, or you have questions, I would be happy to
answer them. Several students have already been in touch with us off
list, but should also feel free to discuss ideas for projects on our
developers list. I look forward to hearing from more students as the
application period opens up.
