Hi Lisa-
  You just answered your own question. If I'm doing development work and I get new functionality
working, and I'm not completely up to date with the repository because I know there are some recent
changes to the repository that I don't want to have to deal with right now and which are likely to
break my code, I want a way of recording the status of my working directory. This is, after all, why
"cvs tag" (as opposed to "cvs rtag") exists in the first place, right?
