Yes, I am not sure of the best way to offer better names in the
animation dialog. It would be nice to improve that.

It isn't intentional, but the pipeline in Tomviz is different to that
in ParaView. We probably need to do some work to improve the available
options, and the general user interface there. We have a new release
planned in early January, I don't think we will have this fixed by
then, but I will take a deeper look at this as the experience isn't
what I would like it to be.

Thanks for your feedback, animation is certainly an area I would like
to improve the user interface for.
