[Paraview] glyph/pattern of a vector field

Hello,

I have a question on how to make a glyph/pattern of a vector field: a
current distribution on a regular rectangular grid in my case.
Which file format does better suit for this?

Looks like vtk files can be only used for scalars (?),
and vtu files are only designed for a complex unstructured grid (?) (I may
be wrong.)

2D distribution is fine for me, to start with; 3D would be appreciated as
well.
