[Paraview] generating a figure from time-dependent data

Have you looked at  "Plot Selection Over Time"? It does exactly that.
Attached is an image and state file for ParaView 5.4.1 that demos the
same. You can use can.ex2 found in ParaView tutorial data to load the
state.
