Here is the script that you should run
from paraview.simple import *
data = XMLPolyDataReader( FileName=['/.../file.vtp'] )
smooth = Smooth(data)
smooth.NumberofIterations = 200
writer = CreateWriter("foo.ply", smooth)
writer.FileType = 'Ascii'
writer.UpdatePipeline()
