I had a problem recently too with memory growing when generating an animation. I turned on immediate mode rendering and it seemed better after that.
Not sure if I also did a git update around the same time, so it might not have been that.

Subject: Re: [Paraview] memory allocation problem when saving animation
There was a discussion earlier this month about ParaView having memory issues while saving animations (http://public.kitware.com/pipermail/paraview/2011-September/022675.html).
The last poster indicated that the problem was solved when they used PV 3.12.0-RC1-92-g35250ec 64-bit with geometry caching turned off. I could not find a link for 3.12 RC1 on the PV website, and when I downloaded and compiled the source from the gitweb I still suffer from this issue, even with geometry caching turned off.
How do you access the release candidate binaries?
My system is:
Ubuntu 10.10 64bit
Linux 2.6.35-30-generic #60-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 19 20:42:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux
cmake 2.8.3
libvtk 5.4
libinsighttoolkit 3.20.0-novo1 (from www.paulnovo.org<http://www.paulnovo.org>)
Cheers,
Seth
