[Paraview] Filter input types

I wrote a filter inherited from vtkPolyDataAlgorithm.
As far as I have understood, such a filter is supposed to produce a vtkPolyData but may use any kind of dataset as input.
The problem is I get an error because my input is an ImageData set while a PolyData is expected.
Any idea of what I missed in my code?
