Hi, the hdf5 that is in paraview segfaults the paraview build on sparc: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=494031 and we fixed that by using the Debian systemwide hdf5, that works. See the bug report for all the technical details why and where it fails and even for a patch to hdf5 in paraview that (also) fixes it. Ondra
