I didn't tried with VTU files but I succed with Ensight files.
It should be the same problem

Did you tried to write your data  with FORM='BINARY' which is the 'C 
Binary'.
This form is only available on Windows OS.
It is the first step in coding before writing with FORM='UNFORMATTED', 
ACCESS='DIRECT'
When you you write your data with a direct acces, do you write all your 
data in one times ?
