Dear Roxana,

you can actually get even more information about the image orientation in 
DICOM files. Have a look at tag (0020,0037) Image Orientation (Patient) 
providing the angle cosines of all axis (have a look at the standard, 
please). For (axial, coronal , sagittal) you would find a 1 in the correct 
place.
