[Insight-users] Advection Term for Level Sets

I am looking for input on following questions:
What is the significance of Advection term in Eq. 9.3 for Level Set Segmentation?
What book can I refer for Level Set Segmentation?  Why is this term not used for Threshold Level Set Filter?
