Hi everyone:

As we discussed on the tcon today, I will have our new software engineer
Patrick Cheng work on developing an image-guided surgery application with
IGSTK.

To start, we will base this on the Polaris since it available in our lab and
not as in demand as much as the Aurora (which we also have)

I pasted the scenario for the demonstration below my signature - these are
really typical steps in an image-guided application

The attached paper also describes an early version of the system we built
for Aurora a few years ago

If you have any questions please let me know

Thanks

Kevin

Scenario for image-guided demonstration application by Patrick

*	Scan abdominal phantom from CIRS (model 57) with "doughtnut" and bb
fiducials (1 mm CT scans) and save as DICOM file
*	Read into IGSTK application using our DICOM reader (is it available
yet?)
*	Develop four quadrant GUI (ask Hee-su about his RABiopsy example)
with axial, saggital, coronal, and 3D view
*	Now we must do registration between the CT data set and the Polaris
tracker

*	(Have James Zhang in our lab show you his user interface for this as
an example)
*	Select 3 or more fiducials in CT space by clicking them with the
mouse and recording their x/y/z position
*	Initialize the Polaris - will use a tracked pointer and footswitch
(ask Hee-su or Ziv Yaniv in our lab for help)
*	Select the fiducials in Polaris space
*	Register between CT data set and Polaris tracker using paired-point
registration (Andinet from Kitware to implement in IGSTK from ITK or VTK)

*	Now you should be able to enable image overlay
