[vtkusers] Extracting single slices from vtkNIFTIImageReader

Hi,
  I am working with 3D nifti files in VTK and reading them with the
vtkNIFTIImageReader class (
https://www.vtk.org/doc/nightly/html/classvtkNIFTIImageReader.html). I
would like to extract single 2D slices from the nifti file without plotting
the slice in a render window (i.e., without using vtkImageViewer2). Is that
possible with vtkNIFTIImageReader? If so, how?
