[vtkusers] Trouble using VTK Widget with QVTK

Have you checked the class of the renderWindow object in comparison with ui->widget->GetRenderWindow()?

Have you tried
vtkSmartPointer<vtkRenderWindow> renderWindow = vtkSmartPointer<vtkRenderWindow>::New();
ui->widget->SetRenderWindow(renderWindow);
