[vtkusers] Beginners Guideline Help

Hello, I am a complete beginner with VTK. My project supervisor in the
department has assigned me a project on VTK and ITK. But I am not getting
anywhere since I don't have a clue on how to start off with VTK. Can anyone
please help me with step by step procedures about how to learn VTK
effectively? Thanks in advance.
PS. I have programming experience in C, C++ and Java.
