[vtkusers] How to set fixed number of points to deciomation ?

Hello,

I have a big triangle meshes. I would like to perform decimantion to 1000
points.
Is it possible to decimate to fixed numer of points or polygons and
triangles ? 
I would appreciate for any help/info.
