[vtkusers] Writing addition xml information in a vtp file

Hi All,
When I am writing polydata to a .vtp file, is there a way I can write
addition information under a custom declared XML tags, for example, can I
write something like below in a .vtp file using XMLPolyDataWriter class ?

<MyParameterList>
    <MyNewParameter> 3 </MyNewParameter>
</MyParameterList>
