[vtkusers] Colored Point Cloud

I would like to import and display a colored point cloud ( < 3000 points for starters ).
Incoming point data will be in x,y,z,R,G,B format
I think that in place of a single display point 
I'm planning on using 7 display points for each data point, 
essentially a cross around the display point 
plus a +z and -z point.
A.  Can this be done?
B.  Is there a better way
C.  Would using verrrrrrrry small spheres be an effective alternative?
