Ask and ye shall receive.
Special thanks to Zamir, Patrick, Benjamin and Mirko for explicitly
replying with their interest. And to Aaron for instigating my reply
back on March 28th in the first place, when I asked for people to
express their interest.
Show your support of open source in a very concrete way: make a pledge
to my new Kickstarter campaign "ActiViz .NET Installers featuring VTK
5.10"... and if we can drum up enough financial support, the stretch
goal is to build installers for the upcoming VTK 6 release and try to
get C# wrapping into VTK 'master' as well.
Please visit the Kickstarter project page and make a pledge:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dlrdave/activiz-net-installers-featuring-vtk-510
I'm excited, and hope to see this campaign succeed in a big way!
Pledge today, the campaign ends in just over 3 weeks on June 11 at
11:11 am Eastern time in the US. Even if you can only afford a pledge
of a few dollars, please make it, and share the above link with your
friends and co-workers.
And please, help spread the word: if we can get about 150 people to
pledge at the average level that most kickstarter projects see, we will
definitely meet the goal and get this thing done.
Thanks for your consideration,
David Cole
software guy
and
primary architect, developer and builder-of-installers of the ActiViz
.NET project

+1 for what ever we can do ...

How many people would pay something on a Kickstarter project or an
Indiegogo project to make ActiViz .NET 5.10 and 6.0 happen? I've been
considering trying to make it happen with an appropriate funding level,
but fear that there would not quite be enough interest in this to make
it happen. If it seems like it's actually possible, (based on response
here), I might actually do that.
This question about ActiViz 5.10's availability has been asked and
answered repeatedly, usually by Dave DeMarle, on the VTK mailing
lists... Do a google on "activiz 5.10 site:vtk.org" to see the previous
emails.
The bottom line is that I started a gerrit topic to merge ActiViz .NET
into mainstream VTK 'master' itself last fall, worked on it bit by bit
from September until January, and then ... had to leave it in the hands
of my capable colleagues because of my new duties. It is sitting on the
shelf for now for want of funding.
The work-in-progress can be seen in this gerrit topic:
http://review.source.kitware.com/#/t/1615/
There is a wiki page about it here:
http://www.vtk.org/Wiki/VTK/CSharp/ComingSoon
The problems you have trying to build ActiViz .NET yourself are due to
the modularization of VTK. You should be able to build a standalone
ActiViz .NET against VTK 5.10 (rather than VTK 'master'), although you
may run into some different problems that are addressed by some pieces
of the commits that you'll see in the above topic.
Unfortunately, it requires a bit of work to keep things in sync with
the constantly shifting and changing VTK, and that was one of the
motivations behind trying to get it into VTK itself. Since ActiViz .NET
was scarcely-funded at best, it was challenging to keep it up to date
constantly.
Please do reply with a "go for it" or "Kickstarter +1" if you would be
willing to pay something to see ActiViz continue breathing.... If
there's really enough interest in it, maybe I'll actually do one. :-)
