Rahul,
You declared polyLineReader inside the branches of your if-else
statement. Outside the scope of the branches, it is undefined. That is
why you get the error.
You need to declare polyLineReader before the if-else statement, and
it needs to be a superclass of both types of readers. In this case,
the common ancestor class is vtkAlgorithm so you'll need something
like
std::string extension =
vtksys::SystemTools::GetFilenameLastExtension(argv[2]);
vtkSmartPointer< vtkAlgorithm > polyLineReader;
if (extension == ".vtp"){
vtkSmartPointer<vtkXMLPolyDataReader> reader =
vtkSmartPointer<vtkXMLPolyDataReader>::New();
reader->SetFileName(polyDataFileName.c_str());
polyLineReader = reader; // I'm not sure if this will actually
work with smart pointers
}
else if (extension == ".vtk") {
vtkSmartPointer<vtkPolyDataReader> reader =
vtkSmartPointer<vtkPolyDataReader>::New();
reader->SetFileName(polyDataFileName.c_str());
polyLineReader = reader; // I'm not sure if this will actually
work with smart pointers
}
polyLineReader->Update();

Cory
