Thanks... the information is greatly appreciated (Sorry that I forgot to post to the list).

Doug,

Please keep the conversation on the mailing list so that everyone benefits from it. Yes, it should be using only the 100 MB. If you run into some issues, let me know.

Thanks... Okay, let me play with that and see what happens. Just want to verify... if I have a large volume actor that is 100MB and I have 4 viewports, I'm still only using 100MB of memory, not 400MB of memory, Correct?

BTW: Thanks for the response.

Doug,

You should be able to move them individually. you will have two renderers, and you would need two cameras (one for each).

I'll have to look up the multiple viewports. Essentially, I would like to be have to have a quad view where I can have two of the views show the volume in 3D (so that I can rotate them differently) and two other views to show the volume as XY or XZ projections.

Our main concern is that the volume that we use are really large.

If I show the actor in two different viewports, can I move them individually?

Can you create multiple viewports and not multiple render windows? Multiple render windows will create multiple contexts and without any special care will duplicate data.

Hi all,

I'm working on a design and need some help with a basic question. We would like to have the standard quad view shown in a lot of 3D applications. Ideally, I would like to have the same vtkvolume actor in two different render windows so that I can rotate the volume one way in one window and a different way in another window. Am I using twice as much memory for the vtkvolume actor, since, in reality, I am only moving the camera position?
