[vtkusers] vtk6 + autoconf

Hi Bill

*want* is not the issue - it is just not very practical in this case. I work on application codes that are already pretty complex with many dependencies inside an already complex software environment (various supercomputing platforms) that already use autoconf. It is a non trivial task to convert these over from using autoconf to using cmake - not to mention that replacing one working build system with another just to satisfy one dependency is a hard sell to co-developers.

Cheers
Gerard

I assume you do not want to use cmake/

Hi

Does anyone have an autoconf solution supporting VTK6?

More generally, what's the problem with providing a high level library that effectively links all VTK dependencies so that we can simple -lvtk rather than having to work out the dependencies for every release of VTK? It's not a very practical position to insist that any application that depends on VTK must use cmake for its build system.

Cheers
Gerard
