[vtkusers] Build errors "no rule to make target..."

I'm trying to build 5.4.2. I also got a similar error trying to build a
modified version of vtk 5.2.1:

No rule to make target `Common/vtkTypeInt8Array.cxx', needed by
`Common/CMakeFiles/vtkCommon.dir/vtkTypeInt8Array.o'.
