[vtkusers] problems building the sources of vtk

I would still clear the cache and reconfigure. To make it failsafe do
not change any default. Then build. After it builds successfully then
add options and generate and then build again. This time the build
should be much faster since the change should only require some of vtk
to be rebuilt.
