[vtkusers] Compile without using CMake?

Christian,

It would be difficult to build VTK without cmake. Even more difficult VTK
for python. And it might be impossible.

I could be wrong. Technically, I don't think you need cmake to build VTK,
you need it to configure VTK and create make files or VS solutions that can
be used to build VTK.

A similar question would be "Can you build a project that uses
autoconf/configure without configure"?
