Give our more information about your GPU,  Is it Nvidia or ATI?. Exact type is also important. Maybe I will help.

Hi Vikram,
Unfortunately I am not Linux user for a long time, however your problem can be more "hardware". For me, it looks like proper driver is missing for your graphic card. I do not know if 3D graphic driver is installed by default. If not look for some Nvidia or ATI drivers appropriate for your hardware.
Best,
Michal

There is no Module section !!
The sections present are ServerLayout, Files, Input Device, Device, and Screen.
And on hitting Esc + Insert, it says warning - its a read only file !
Vikram.
I think you can just add the module section. This what mine looks like:Section "Module"Load           "dbe"Load           "extmod"Load           "type1"Load           "freetype"Load           "glx"EndSectionYou'll have to edit this file as root:sudo favoriteEditor /etc/X11/xorg.confDavid_______________________________________________Powered by www.kitware.comVisit other Kitware open-source projects athttp://www.kitware.com/opensource/opensource.htmlPlease keep messages on-topic and check the VTK FAQ at:http://www.vtk.org/Wiki/VTK_FAQFollow this link to subscribe/unsubscribe:http://www.vtk.org/mailman/listinfo/vtkusers
