[vtkusers] How to save window to 16bit DICOM file?

Hi all,
I have renderer a volume data with vtkRenderWindow.
I want to know how to save the window to a dicom file ?
if i use vtkWindowToImageFilter the result is 8Bit or 16bit ?
how to get 16bit image data from renderWindow?
