[vtkusers] Per cell-type data arrays?

Hello,

I'd like to be able to specify data arrays on a per-cell type basis (or
ideally on arbitrary subsets of cells/points).  Is there a way to accomplish
this in VTK?  My application requires a few volumetric vector fields and a
large number of scalar surface fields, so using dummy values for unused
cells will cause problems with memory.  I'd also prefer not to split the
dataset into separate files since this seems to lead to considerable
end-user problems.
