[vtkusers] byte ordering in a binary legacy .VTK file

Hi all,

I'm trying to make a function that returns the correct byteordering of a
given legacy binary .vtk file. Before I was reading through POINTS and see
if any number falls out of bound for given precision. It worked but I think
this is not consistent enough and hack. I've looked at htonl() and so on but
it seems like these functions only work integers. Any suggestions?
