[vtkusers] Need Help Compiling VTK on OS X With Python Wrappers and a Local Python Installation

You might try using macports without a root installation path. The default
path is /opt/local/, but that can be changed. There may be some ports that
contain instructions that require root access (perhaps apache, mysql,
postgresql, etc. have system init scripts that require root access).

Seems to me that your swimming a little too hard against the tide, esp. with
.so libs on OSX/Darwin. How about you lighten your work load by asking your
sys admin to install all your libraries? How about running your own system
with root access (try Ubuntu)?

Take care,
Darren
