[vtkusers] Problem with lookup table

Try going to http://www.paraview.org/paraview/resources/software.html  
and just download and try the binary version of ParaView 3.4. This  
works fine on my Ubuntu machine and should eliminate any problems with  
different VTK versions, compile settings, etc.
