[vtkusers] vtkXYPlotActor & viewport coordinates

I'm attempting to get Plot coordinates in a vtkXYPlotActor.  I am able to
get viewport coordinates (ie: 0,0 = bottom left corner of the window), but I
am at a loss on how to map those into coordinates of points in my xy Plot.
I have attempted to use ViewportToPlot(), but that doesn't seem to work
properly (or causes a seg fault).  Any thoughts on this or examples?  Am I
missing a key element here?
