[vtkusers] offset a polyline I need help!

Hi,
Someone know if VTK has an direct way to offset a closed contour like these
points

path = [5 0 1 ; 0 5 1 ; 7 6 1 ; 5 10 1 ;10 5 1; 5 0 1]

by an amount of "n" units without messing up if the offset is to large?
