[vtkusers] Help needed for QuadricClustering - piecewise

I'm using successfully the QuadricClustering mesh-decimation (full
polydata-mesh as input, getting the reduced mesh from filter). In order to
process a large dataset (more than 5*10^6 triangles), i tried to use
StartAppend(), Append(), EndAppend() - but every time the
EndAppend()-Function is called the vtk crashes.

Has anyone used this piecewise function before without crashing (is there
an example available?)
