[vtkusers] image file handling

Respected Sir,

                           I am new to vtk environment .I have succesfully
built VTK 5.0.3 with vc++ 6.0 complier,executed few example programs like
cone ,cylinder etc.Sir I would like to  know few things in this regard.

1.From a beginners point of view whats the best way to learn vtk and obtain
hands on experience on it
2.Is it necessary for a beginner like me to buy the vtk books.
3.I have a problem on hand , How to open an image file of .png format in vtk
and manipulate it..I wan t to know how to get accustomed with image handling
operations .
