[vtkusers] cleaning an unstructured mesh

Hi,
I have an unstructured mesh with some almost-degenerated elements. This is due 
to several points very close to each other. I was wondering what would be the 
best way (via some Point Locator or similar) to snap points separated by less 
then threshold, but consistently merging the affected cells. Could someone 
suggest a direction?
