So, it seems I definitely have to read something more about this format. My goal is to use a polydata template as input for a segmentation tool, Itk snap, that works fine with gipl. I couldn't find info on gipl format yet, just some conversion tool useless to me.

correct me if I am wrong, but GIPL is a format for structured data
(raster image), correct ?

If this is correct, you need to define exactly what you mean by
transforming an unstructured data (polydata) into a structured data
(imagedata).
