[vtkusers] Writing text on a cylinder

Hello VTK users,
I would like to write a text on the surface of a cylinder.
The current solution I have is to write the text in a BMP image,
and then to apply the image as a texture onto the cylinder.
This is quite awkward, so I would appreciate any hint on how to implement a more flexible
and straightforward approach, that does not require creating a BMP file.
