Why don't you just install VTK binaries (you need openGL also) and try
to build an MSVS project for the first example in VTK/Examples/Tutorial
- cone?
Than you may see how you do without CMake.
I do not know what are the other applications that installer wants to
install on your computer.
I am developing both, on Windows and on Linux, but I do use CMake
because of 2 different platforms.
