Open-source software for Medical Image Analysis and Visualization

Kitware, Inc and ILS, Inc are offering a two day course on ITK and its 
uses in medical image analysis.

This course will introduce attendees to several open-source, freely 
available toolkits for pre-clinical medical image analysis and 
visualization. Emphasis is placed on the National Library of Medicine’s 
Insight Toolkit (www.itk.org) and the Visualization Toolkit 
(www.kitware.com).

The following topics will be covered:

Day 1
•Open-source challenges and opportunities in medical image analysis
•Medical Image data (CT, MR, PET, etc.)
•Trends in medical image analysis
•Web-based image archives
•Applications for image analysis (VolView, ParaView, Vetot, Snap, etc.)

Day 2
•Open-source resources for medical image analysis
•Dashboards and CMake
•Insight Segmentation framework
•Insight Registration framework

Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on providing hands-on 
experience with solving real-world research problems including small 
animal image analysis, tumor volume estimation, and histology 
reconstruction. The course will be tailored to our audience's interests 
based on the results from a survey provided with the registration form.

Attendees are expected to bring a high-end laptop computer with wireless 
connectivity. All course material will be available online, and 
attendees will receive published copies of the Insight Software Guide, 
the Visualization Toolkit User’s Guide, and Insight Into Images: 
Principlesand Practice for Segmentation, Registration, and Image 
Analysis(total retail value: $222).

Space is limited to ensure course quality. Registration fee is $850 per 
participant until Feb. 1st 2007, and $950 per participant thereafter for 
this two-day course.
