[vtkusers] Invalid memory access of location under java/OSX/Cocoa

I have been getting the error Invalid memory access of location * eip=* where
the *'s have been any combination of hex value. Usually, when I get a
vtkwindow open, there seems to be an issue with the cocoa binding in that I
don't get an actual app icon and the render window does not interact with
the window manager properly (does not have close/min/max buttons) and cannot
be foregrounded. Creating a java window fixes this problem and the window
can then be interacted with properly (and controls work) Except that after a
shot period of time the JVM crashes with the invalid access error. I have
attached the java crash log.
Anyone have any ideas?
