[vtkusers] volume rendering on gpu

Hi,

I am using vtk for volume rendering of medical data sets. I want to know if
vtk detects and takes advantage of the programmable graphics hardware for
volume rendering. If vtk does not have this capability, I want to let vtk
perform the volume rendering on gpu to improve its performance and want to
ask if there is any patch to accomplish this.
